How to build post for mailbox
Today we will show you how to build mail box for your new (or maybe not so) home.
Recently we moved to new place. This nice place has mailing address and many other advantages but don't have mail box! How else we will get our mail and packages from Amazon.com?
After some research and little thinking we decided to build it mail post by ourself!
This is what we need:
4. On 6 feet piece we measure and mark 1.5 feet that will be in ground. Then based on USPS mailbox guidelince from first mark we measure 39" and third mark at 3 5/8" for notch.
5. Then put two 4" x 4" pieces together and screw with 2 screws. If it small use chisel and hammer to make it wider

After some research and little thinking we decided to build it mail post by ourself!
This is what we need:
- Mail box (from ACE or Homedepot or Amazon). We bought small and cheap
- 8 feet long 4" x 4" treated post.
- 1.5 foot 4" x 2" plank. We had scrape wood.
- 1 inch thick board to fit under mail box
- 2.5" long wood screws - 2 ct.
- 1.5" long wood screws - 4 ct.
- wood screw to attache box board under mailbox.
Tools we need:
- Cut it 6 feet and 2 feet.
- We need to make notches on both pieces. First we start with shorter 2 feet piece. Measure and mark 1 inch from end. Then 3 5/8" from first mark. Make cuts with saw where will be a notch every 2/8" -3/8" to half of height of post.
3. Using hammer and chisel remove wood between cuts and make straight and clean sides.
3 and 5/8" wide. |
